A Grand Forks man has been arrested after authorities say he assaulted his girlfriend and threatened to set their home on fire. The incident happened Tuesday, Oct. 28, when Grand Forks Police responded to a 911 call reporting a physical domestic disturbance. Officers arrived to find the victim with visible red marks on her neck, according to police.
Police identified the suspect as Larry Scroggins, who is now facing four counts of terrorizing. According to police reports, Scroggins allegedly assaulted the woman and made verbal threats to burn down their house during the incident.
Domestic violence cases remain a serious issue in Grand Forks and across North Dakota. Local advocates say October has seen an uptick in domestic-related calls, and community resources continue working to support victims and prevent escalation in homes across the region.
“Domestic violence calls are always urgent and dangerous situations,” a Grand Forks Police spokesperson said. “When someone threatens harm or to destroy property, we take immediate action to protect victims and prevent further danger.”
A representative from the Community Violence Intervention Center (CVIC) added, “This case is a reminder that help is available. We encourage anyone experiencing abuse to reach out. No one should feel unsafe in their own home.”
This case underscores the importance of reporting domestic violence and supporting victims who may be afraid to speak up. Resources like CVIC and local shelters remain available 24/7 to help those in crisis. Authorities say further updates will be released as the investigation continues.
