Grand Forks Public Schools (GFPS) has officially launched a $1 million fundraising campaign to install state-of-the-art digital scoreboards at Central and Red River High Schools. The initiative is aimed at enhancing athletic facilities, modernizing fan experiences, and creating new sponsorship opportunities for local businesses. Sports are a cornerstone of community life in Grand Forks. The current scoreboards are outdated, difficult to maintain, and lack modern digital capabilities such as instant replays, player spotlights, live statistics, and digital advertising. GFPS hopes the upgrade will not only improve game-day excitement but also attract revenue through sponsorships and advertising placements. The district plans to fund the project without raising taxes—leaning instead on private donations, alumni contributions, corporate sponsors, and booster clubs. “Local businesses already sponsor teams and events. A digital scoreboard gives them even more visibility while supporting kids,” said Sarah McKinnon, owner of a downtown Grand Forks business and GFPS parent. “Imagine Friday night lights with instant replays and student-made graphics—we’re excited,” added Red River senior and student-athlete, Jonah Miller. How the Fundraiser Works 🎯 Goal: $1,000,000 🕒 Timeline: Donations open now; installation planned for Fall 2026 💼 Funding Sources: Local businesses, alumni, community donors, corporate sponsorships 📍 Locations: Central High School, Red River High School The $1 million digital scoreboard fundraiser isn’t just about technology—it’s a signal of Grand Forks' commitment to youth, school spirit, and community collaboration. As donations roll in and excitement builds, GFPS is aiming for more than just a modern screen—but a lasting symbol of local pride.
