A Tuesday afternoon crash at one of south Grand Forks' busier intersections ended with a driver under arrest on a suspected DUI charge, according to Grand Forks police.

What police said happened

The Grand Forks Herald reported that the crash happened at about 1:42 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, at the intersection of 17th Avenue South and South Columbia Road. Per the Herald, officers arrived to find a 2013 Toyota Scion and a 2021 GMC Sierra, both with disabling damage.

According to the Herald's account of the police report, the Sierra was turning north onto South Columbia Road from 17th Avenue South when it was struck by the Scion, which was traveling south through a red light.

Valley News Live also reported that the driver was arrested for DUI after running a red light and causing the crash.

Charges and injuries

The Herald reported that officers arrested the Scion's driver for driving under the influence and also cited the driver for disregarding a traffic signal. A DUI arrest is an accusation, not a conviction; the driver is presumed innocent unless proven otherwise in court.
